Life in a day of Vlad the Impaler in different stages
Chapter 1: Young ages
It was just another cold and windy night. “Vlad,” said a huge brute of a man who came into my cell in the prison. He threw down a small bowl of pottage. Onions, cabbage, garlic, nuts, berries, leeks, all mixed together in one big thick soup. I looked for some pork in case I was lucky, but today they didn’t give me any. I wouldn’t have to go through all this if it wasn’t for my father. He put his power over his own children. I hate everyone. I feel so angry and without thought I slammed my bowl onto the ground. “I hate you all! All of you!” I shouted.“Calm down or you’ll get another beating, I don’t suggest that if you want to stand up tomorrow,” the huge man bellowed, “and that’s all you’re getting to eat tonight so if I were you I’d be on my hands and knees licking it up.” He said pointing to the food. So he left, and I was left to sit there on my own.
Chapter 2:Education
Today is my first lesson in warfare tactics.“Ok boys, now imagine if you had an army at your hands and you wanted to kill your enemy’s army. How would you do that?” the teacher asked.“I would ride a horse in swinging my sword like the generals do!” I heard one foolish rich boy say. “No, that would be foolish because you are risking death by running out into the battlefield, which is why today you are going to be taught a common but effective warfare tactic known as flanking. If you had an entire army to handle battling another army, you could divide the group into small groups. You would then position yourselves in front and around the enemy and not allow them to move. This is flanking, surrounding your enemies from the side. A very good example of this is the Battle of Marathon back in 450 BC where the Greeks surrounded the Persians and the Persians ran back to their ships.”I found this to be my favourite class, war in general was fascinating .
Chapter 3: Rise to the throne
I was sleeping when I suddenly woke up to the noise of yelling. When I looked out the window, I saw a huge mob of people with torches and swords charging towards the castle. I wasn’t scared after all I’ve been through. I recognised these people as the Hungarian army, they were probably going for my father, he deserves it. I quickly hid under my bed just in case and they soon barged into my room and looked about, this time holding bloodied swords while people were screaming downstairs. I tried sleeping until it was all over. I eventually woke up again, this time everybody was gone except for the Ottomans who were inspecting the damage. Everything had been broken and I saw my father’s body on the ground drenched in blood. But I smiled, know I would be next to the throne. My brother had stayed in Turkey and my father is now dead.
Chapter 4: Taking over Wallachia, Second reign
The Ottomans have now taken over Wallachia. My hometown. I’m not going to let someone take over my hometown where I’ve lived my life. I’ve failed previously and fled. But now I have an army, I will take over Wallachia once more! My army joined me in a war cry. This time I have a plan, to flank. I put myself in the middle group leading the army, sword raised, my horse galloped into the field with me on its back. Later on...Wallachia has been devastated, the city can’t run on run on its own. So I decided to talk to a few peasants who lived here. “I think I speak on behalf of all the people here in Wallachia when I say our city is in a horrible condition. We need a lot more buildings and villiages.” One of the peasants told me.“Our city’s trade system is falling.” A merchant told me. So I decided to do all in my power to resolve these problems.
Chapter 5: Impaling Mehmed II’s army
I woke up, it was a normal day and I looked outside and was greeted by the sweet stench of rotting corpses on sharp stakes. My forest of corpses has expanded after the genius Sultan decided to go against me and send an army after me, so this is the result of all that.I went outside and sat down on a table right next to the forest of bodies and saw that one of my guards had prepared breakfast for me, a nice big bowl of victim’s blood and a loaf of bread. I began eating and after a while stood up and decided to go to my underground chamber to see what victims I have next. The soldiers have captured a wife and child of one of the Sultan’s soldiers who was impaled earlier. The wife was screaming and I took her child and just for the fun of it, dunked him into boiling water. The woman screamed more and more, so I decided to ‘console’ her. “Here, I won’t make you eat him like others, so you can take him home.” I said. But she put up a fight nevertheless and I immediately pointed to the forest of bodies, “Do you want to end up like all those other people over there?”With that, she immediately stopped and I smiled.
Chapter 6: Capture and death
For once in my life, I was missing the one thing I needed most, money. I decided to go to a good friend of mine to borrow money, because that’s what good friends do right? Well, he decided to throw me into jail for his own sake. A man suddenly appeared and gave me a bowl of pottage. I was alone again, hating the world, no one wanted to help me. I threw my bowl onto the ground. The man laughed and said, “ If I were you I’d be on my hands and knees now licking that pottage because that’s the only food you’re going to get tonight.”
